There were 351,869 registered marriages (98.6% share) between Filipino men and women, while 4,787 marriages (1.3% share) were between Filipinos and foreign nationals. Most intermarriages were between Filipinos and American and Chinese nationals Meanwhile, the highest increase in registered marriages was observed in Bicol Region with 96.2 percent, from 12,212 in 2020 to 23,964 in 2021, whereas the NCR recorded the lowest at 25.5 percent. On the other hand, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) had the lowest number of registered marriages with only 2,337 or 0.7 percent of the total marriages in the country. The same regions also reported the highest number of registered marriages in 2020. These three regions collectively shared more than one-third (36.6%) of the total registered marriages in the country. The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the second highest number of marriages with 41,025 (11.5% share) followed by Central Luzon with 39,402 (11.0% share). Two more regions with relatively large population reported a high number of registered marriages. (Figure 1, and Tables 1 and 3)Īmong the 17 administrative regions, CALABARZON recorded the highest number of registered marriages with 50,211 or 14.1 percent of the total marriages. On the average, a total of 978 marriages were solemnized daily. Ĭoncurrently, the crude marriage rate (CMR) 2 increased to 3.2 or 3 marriages per thousand population from 2.2 marriages per thousand population in 2020. This increase may have been brought about by the easing of quarantine measures due to the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which caused the lowest marriages registered over the past 50 years as recorded in 2020 1. Registered marriages up by almost half in 2021Ī total of 356,839 marriages were registered in 2021, an increase of 48.2 percent from the total registered marriages of 240,775 in 2020. Marriages of Filipinos abroad which were reported to the Philippine Foreign Service Posts are presented in a separate report. This release includes marriages of Filipinos whose usual residence is abroad and marriages of foreign nationals that occurred in the country during the reference period. Figures presented herein are not adjusted for under registration. The information presented includes marriages that occurred from January to December 2021 based on data files received by the PSA - Civil Registration Service (CRS) from the PSOs that were registered as of 31 March 2022. Data on marriages presented in this release were obtained from the timely and late registered marriages at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars throughout the country and submitted to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs).
